Pale yellow with tinges of gold. Aromas of fresh strawberry and apricot. Fresh, fruity and spicy with white pepper and red apple on the palate. Spice lingers throughout for a dry and tingly finish that will leave your mouth watering for another sip.
Enjoy this Roter Veltliner very well chilled at around 8°C. This wine is more than pleasant to sip alone, it also pairs nicely with Asian cuisine, fish and shellfish, soft and semi-soft cheeses, salads, and fruit compote.
The Andreas Alt Vineyards was established in the year 2000. Andreas Alt inherited the estate from his parents and decided to create a new and exciting direction for the vineyards. The estate was originally established in 1750. Several hand dug cellars, over 300 years old, are still in use today as they provide the perfect fermenting conditions for the native wine varietals used in the Alt wines.
Though often mistaken for the Grüner Veltliner, there is absolutely no relation between the two grapes. The Roter Veltliner is one of 22 white wine varietals permitted for making wine in Austria, as well as the Riesling, Grüner Veltliner, and Muscat (which are all produced at the Andreas Alt estate).
The berries of the Roter Veltliner redden as they ripen and produce full-bodied wines with fresh acidity and notable spice. The wine tends to develop nutty characteristics with age, so buy two and put one away for a couple of years!
