Whispering Angel 2018
Whispering Angel has been the talk of Provence, if not the wine world at large, for some time now. This tantalizing blend of Grenache, Rolle, Cinsault, Syrah, and Mourvedre is one of the most exciting cuvées from Côtes de Provence to grace the shelves of wine shops in a long time. A supremely drinkable rosé that will have you pouring “just one more glass” for yourself and your friends.
It is a pale coral pink in the glass. Enticing aromas of juicy ripe strawberry, white peach, passionfruit and lemon peel permeate the nostrils. Upon the palate, it appears bone dry. Ribbons of gossamer silk texture and an enchanting slipperiness advance at just the right moment, giving way to charming and refined layers of white peach, cherry, tangerine and citrus, with hints of more exotic spices, passion fruit, and mango. White peach, dried mango, and white cherry all ride out on a wave of honey tinged with sage. Streaked with racy minerality and a lingering river-stone and pink grapefruit blossom aftertaste.
Enjoy Whispering Angel chilled at 8°C, as an aperitif or with grilled fish and shellfish dishes, grilled poultry, soft mild cheeses, salads, berries and stone fruits with fresh cream, Frito misto or charcuterie.
Château d’Esclans is located on an elevated plateau on the Mediterranean coast near the Georges de Pennafort. It lies just 25 kilometers northwest of the ancient Roman city of Frejus.
The Palm by Whispering Angel 2018
The younger sibling of the world-famous Whispering Angel rosé, this delicate Provence pink is a carefully composed blend of Grenache, Cinsault and Syrah grapes from top vineyards in the Côteaux d’Aix-en-Provence. The enchanting ballet-slipper hue is complemented by an intoxicating fragrance of crushed strawberries, white peaches and dried rose petals. Take a sip and you’ll immediately feel refreshed by the crisp acidity and vibrant red cherry, raspberry and redcurrant flavours.
Light, lively and elegant, The Palm is an excellent choice to serve alongside a relaxed al fresco lunch of nicoise salad or grilled salmon. Thanks to its fun-loving, extremely drinkable personality, it’s also perfect for sipping on its own by the pool while you work on your tan or just enjoy some well-deserved downtime.
The winery behind the hugely-successful Whispering Angel brand, Château d’Esclans, has 44 hectares of vineys located some 25 kilometres away from the Mediterranean sea and the ancient Roman town of Frejus. The pride of the chateau are its old Grenache vines which help to produce wines with plenty of character and concentrated flavours. In 2006 the estate was purchased by its current owner, Sacha Lichine, who is widely credited with transforming Provence rosé into a chic, glamorous wine inspired by the stylish local resorts of St Tropez and Cannes.
Chateau d'Esclans Rock Angel 2018
Chateau d’Esclans is known all over the world for their famous Provencal rosé, Whispering Angel, but the hidden secret of the estate is their sensational Rock Angel. Made predominantly with Grenache and Rolle grapes grown in prime vineyards in La Motte en Provence, the harvest is conducted from sunrise to noon to maximise the levels of freshness in the finished wine.
When the grapes arrive at the winery they are carefully sorted three times to ensure only the very best quality raw ingredients are used. Following a light pressing the grape must is fermented in a combination of 600 litre barrels and stainless steel tanks which helps to add extra complexity while showcasing the natural bright freshness of the grapes. The wine is then allowed to rest and settle for a short time before being bottled.
The result is a serious and refined rosé which is equally suited to serving as an elegant aperitif or savouring alongside a long leisurely lunch or dinner. The vibrant red fruit and citrus character and light body make this an incredibly versatile gastronomic wine which pairs well with seafood, fish, chicken, and vegetarian dishes. Rock Angel also makes a sensational partner for fresh pasta served in a creamy sauce or a light fruit-based dessert if you wish to drink it throughout your meal.
