Drink now through to 2024. No need to decant before serving.
As soon as you pour out a glass of this sumptious Primitivo you’ll notice the stunning inky purple hue and intense aromas of crushed blackberries, ripe plums and hints of black tea leaves and rose petals. The first sip reveals a full body, smooth texture and rich dark berry flavours complemented by licorice and graphite which will pair perfectly with red meat dishes like steak frites or a hearty beef stew.
The delicious Polvanera 17 Primitivo is the creation of Filippo Cassano who has been instrumental in the revival of the Primitivo grape in recent years. The grapes for this wine are all sourced from Filippo’s vineyards which sit at 350 metres of altitude on a limestone plateau in Gioia del Colle. These conditions suit the Primitivo grape well, helping to retain freshness which balances out the intense flavours of the grape.
Filippo has been making wine in this part of Puglia since 2003 and works all of his vineyards organically to produce the best quality grapes possible. Following the harvest the grapes that are destined for this wine are fermented and macerated for four weeks in stainless steel tanks before being left to mature in the bottle for at least 12 months.
