Named after the woodcock bird which once flourished all over the southern Rhone Valley, the Mordoree estate was founded in Christophe and Fabrice Delorme in 1986. Today the estate is still in the hands of the family and it has expanded to include 55 hectares of vineyards which give a taste of the region’s many and varied appellations. The estate is certified as organic and also uses biodynamic practices in the vineyard and winery out of respect for the natural environment.
The Delorme family’s La Remise Rouge is crafted from Grenache, Merlot, and Marselan grapes which are carefully harvested by hand each year. The grapes are then fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks to preserve the freshness and fruity flavour profile of these three varieties.
On the nose the wine opens with seductive notes of blackcurrants, dark cherries and ripe plums, while the first sip reveals a silky smooth texture, fine tannins, and rich wild berry flavours accented with hints of licorice, smoky tobacco, and sweet spices. The easy-going nature of this wine makes it an excellent choice to enjoy on its own or alongside simple dishes like pasta served with a beef ragu or a sharing platter of hard cheeses and charcuterie.
