Albarino
Marques de Murrieta Albarino Pazo de Barrantes 2014
Ideally drink now through 2021.
Decanting time: An hour is recommended.
A staple wine of the Rías Baixas D.O. Galacia (Pontevedra. D.O. Rías Baixas) , the Albariño varietal comes from Murrieta’s 12 hectare Pazo de Barrantes estate and hosts tremendous personality and complexity that is a welcome addition to any collector interested in esteemed wines from this historic region. One of the top 100% Albariños from Spain, the Pazo de Barrantes is comfortably within the range of the world’s leading white wines.
Pale gold, with a green tinge in colour. A charming, clean and persistent floral aroma underscored with balsamic hints that intensify and lift on the palate, which is delighted by fruity, melon, citrus and stone elements showcasing the precision of the craft that is characteristic of the Murrieta family of wines. A serious, dry, full to medium bodied wine. Mouthfeel can be described as almost meaty in weight, but not so much that it overshadows its longstanding elegance, and unmistakably there is an elegantly bright, acidic and delightfully balanced line leading to a long, lingering finish that ends with a delightful, lifting bite. A broad, distinctive and firm expression that is bolder than most Albariños. Fermented for at least four months in stainless steel vats and aged for a minimum of two months prior to its release. Gains strength with air.
Poised for longevity while offering ample depth for today’s enjoyment, the vivacity of this Pazo de Barrantes classically pairs well with any type of seafood, white fish and soft cheese but is also weighty enough to handle richer foods typically paired only with reds.
