A 100% Viognier premium cuvee elaborated from ultra-ripe fruit grown on exceptional parcels with rootstock established over 50 years ago. Straw yellow marked with greenish hues. Green apple, exotic dried fruit, and honeysuckle make for a sweet bouquet, inviting you to your first taste. This white wine is rich and unctuous with a medium body. The texture and layers of buttery-citrus, brioche, white peach compote, and honeysuckle are impeccably balanced (in usual, light Condrieu style) by the vein of crushed rock minerality that races through to the finish in tandem with a creamy almond aftertaste.
Although this Viognier can be drunk now, it should be lovingly stored in your cellar for the next six months to 12 years, maybe even longer. If you must indulge now, serve chilled at 8°C. This white wine is excellent with seafood and poultry dishes in cream sauce, Proscuitto wrapped melons, hard to semi-soft mild cheeses, and grilled stuffed courgettes.
Domaine Georges Vernay produced the first vintage of Les Chaillées de l’Enfer in 1992. The grapes are hand-harvested from the ‘La Caille’ plot on the estate where the rootstock for the vines was established in 1957. Les Chaillées de l’Enfer means “the Terraces of Hell” referring to the rocky hills and heat that the vines must endure with the south exposure of the terroir. Domaine Georges Vernay own estates in the Saint-Joseph and Collines Rhodaniennes sub-regions.
