Game of Thrones Cabernet Sauvignon 2015
Renowned winemaker Bob Cabral found the inspiration for this bold bottle in his favourite show, Game of Thrones. One of a series of three official GoT wines, this powerful Cabernet Sauvignon is made with grapes sourced from prime Napa Valley vineyards where parts of the terrain reminded Bob of part of rugged, lush Westeros.
Before embarking on this real-life GoT adventure, Bob had previously been named “Winemaker of the Year” by Wine Enthusiast magazine in 2011. He also crafted North America’s very first 100-point Pinot Noir while working for top estate Williams Selyem. Today he enjoys using his expertise to create his own wines as well as working on fun projects like this one.
The first swirl of Bob’s characterful Cab reveals seductive aromas of dark cherries and blackcurrants with notes of mocha and caramel. Take a sip and you’ll discover ripe blackberry, vanila and menthol flavours and a silky smooth mouthfeel with soft tannins adding structure to the wine. Ideal for lovers of big wines with plenty of flavour, this is the perfect bottle to crack open alongside a hearty beef stew or a fine steak. Or follow winemaker Bob’s recommendation and pair this dramatic Cab with the end of season finale!
Game of Thrones Chardonnay 2016
This succulent Chardonnay bursts with tropical fruit like guava, mango and honeydew melon along with zesty lime, peach and white blossom aromas. On the palate the first impression is of bright, refreshing citrus notes followed by a creamy, well-rounded texture and juicy stone fruit flavours.
Producer Bob Cabral has added a touch of Riesling to this Central Coast Chardonnay to add a subtle floral fragrance and a balancing touch of freshness. Part of the wine was then fermented in oak barrels to give the wine a fuller body and hints of vanilla and sweet spices from the wood. The result is an incredibly easy-going and likeable wine that’s perfect to enjoy alongside your favourite show while munching on a bowl of nachos, salted popcorn or fried chicken.
Bob’s passion for winemaking was sparked when he was just a child, helping his grandfather out in the family winery. He went on to study at Fresno State University before becoming the fourth generation of his family to make wine. In 2011 Wine Enthusiast magazine named him “Winemaker of the Year” for making some of Sonoma County’s best Pinot Noir while working for the prestigious Williams Selyem winery. As a Game of Thrones devotee, Bob relished the challenge of crafting wines that would reflect the spirit of the series and satisfy his fellow fans
Game of Thrones Red Wine Paso Robles 2017
Crafted by a top Californian winemaker who also happens to be a Game of Thrones fan, this red blend is made with 6 different varietals including Petite Syrah, Tempranillo Malbec and Zinfandel. The grapes are sourced from fine Paso Robles vineyards where parts of the terrain are said to bear a resemblance to rugged, beautiful Westeros.
Spicy bramble, dark cherry and vanilla aromas characterise the nose, while the first sip reveals luscious redcurrant and blackberry flavours along with hints of tobacco and dark chocolate. This smooth, likeable wine is ideal to share with friends alongside a pizza while you watch your favourite GoT characters enjoy a glass or two on screen.
