Vermentino
ColleMassari Melacce Vermentino 2018
Drink now through to 2024. Serve well chilled.
Often billed as Italy’s answer to Sauvignon Blanc, Vermentino typically produces crisp, light-bodied white wines which are perfect for sipping as an aperitif or enjoying with summery salads and vegetable-based dishes.
This version is crafted by Castello ColleMassari in the Montecucco appellation of southern Tuscany which was purchased by Maria Iris Bertarelli and Claudio Tipa in 1998. Today the estate has a reputation for producing classic Italian wines which offer excellent value for money and it has twice been named Cellar of the Year by the prestigious Gambero Rosso Italian wine guide, in 2000 and again in 2014.
The estate’s Melacce Vermentino opens with enticing aromas of green apple, white peach and fresh limes with the first sip revealing a bright acidity, notes of ripe tropical fruit and a very clean finish. The wine is made from organically-grown grapes which are vinified in stainless steel tanks to preserve as much freshness and varietal character as possible. This is an ideal easy-going wine to keep in your fridge and can be served alongside a huge range of dishes including creamy pastas, risottos, leafy salads, roasted vegetables, chicken dishes and even pizza.
