Drink now until 2024. Maybe even longer. Decant 1 hour.
This wine is a Provençal blend of Syrah (70%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (30%) that perfectly reflects the terroir of the Côtes de Provence wine region of France.
It is dark garnet in color blushed with streaks of violet. One is sure to notice the intense and complex bouquet of vanilla, spices, violet and black fruit. This blend is supple and velvety on impact. Defined layers of dark roasted berries, spices, black cherry compote, and oak blend together flawlessly in the mellow tannins and fine spices. Round with a ripe black cherry and vanilla aftertaste.
Enjoy this wine with a slight chill, around 18°C. Amicable pairings include grilled red meats and large game (grilled, roasted, or stewed) seasoned with Provençal herbs, charcuterie, and Camembert.
The fruit used to express this Syrah/Cab blend was hand harvested; the grapes were stripped completely from their stalks. A warm 28°C fermentation and a short, 3-week vatting occur before the wine is placed in new French oak barrels from the reputable Allier region.
The Château de Berne vineyards consist of 121 hectares located on a Triassic plateau resting on mid-to-late Jurassic limestone bedrock and is sheltered by 500 hectares of forest. This creates the perfect cool temperatures at night for the grapes to ripen slowly. In addition to Crú vintages Château de Berne also produces olive oil expressed from the olives grown on their estate, truffles and honey.
