Korlat Supreme Cabernet Sauvignon 2012
Ruby with deep purple tinges, this elegant Cabernet Sauvignon exudes richness in appearance, aroma and flavor. Scents of roasted coffee and dark chocolate waft up from the glass, mixing with dark berries and a hint of mint. Aromatic complexity leads to a similar fullness of flavor, combining fresh sweetened boysenberry with tart blueberry, rounded out by bittersweet dark chocolate covered espresso beans. Intense flavor matched with rich velvety tannins result in this exemplary Cabernet.
With enough balance and excellence to be enjoyed alone, this wine shines alongside food. Pair with charcuterie platter of prosciutto and peppered salami, with ancho chili spiced pork, or a filet mignon with pepper cream sauce.
The Supreme line from Korlat vineyard is superb- and can be found in luxury hotels and fine Croatian restaurants. Fruit was hand-picked from only the best sites on the Korlat vineyards, produced in small quantities, aged for two and a half years in new and used French and American oak, creating a wine of the best quality.
Rich tannins in this Cabernet Sauvignon suggest beautiful aging potential. Watch as this wine’s deep purple color will change to rich red, and as coffee and cocoa notes translate into more leather and spice, and velvet tannins soften to suede. A showstopper now, and for many years to come, this is a super wine!
Robert Mondavi Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2017
Spotting the untapped potential of the Napa Valley, Robert Mondavi established his now-legendary winery in 1966 with the ambition of producing some of the world’s finest Cabernet Sauvignons. Today his name is synonymous with breathtaking premium red blend which catapulted Napa Valley into the limelight as a serious rival to Europe’s great winemaking regions.
Shaped by Mondavi’s perfectionist legacy, this classic Napa Valley Cab is crafted using grapes selected from their famous To Kalin vineyard in Oakville and Wappo Hill Vineyard in Stag’s Leap. After an extended maceration the must is vinified and then matured for 17 months in French oak barrels. During this ageing period the team repeatedly samples the developing wines and decides on the composition of the final blend. Usually this will include small amounts of Merlot, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc to add further complexity and a smooth texture to the finished wine.
The result of all this attention to detail is a voluptuous Napa Cab which offers outstanding value. The nose explodes with succulent black cherries, plums and leather aromas which evolve into seductive spices, wild berries and lavender on the palate. An excellent introduction to the king of Napa, Cabernet Sauvignon, from the man who put the Valley on the wine map!
Sette Ponti Poggio al Lupo Maremma 2016
Opening with a deep jewel-like garnet hue and heady aromas of crushed blackberries, dried rosemary and cedar wood, this is a wine to sip and savor over the course of an evening. On the palate intense flavours of blueberries, blackcurrant and sweet spices are complemented by silky smooth tannins and a generous full body. Try serving this powerful yet easygoing Cabernet alongside a platter of hard cheeses, an informal summer barbecue or even a prime steak to really showcase the versatility of this delicious wine.
Poggio al Luppo or “Hill of the Wolf” is named after the 115 acre estate in the wild and rugged Maremma region of Tuscany which was purchased by Antonio Moretti in 1999. The principal vineyard here is set on a southerly-facing hillside near the coast which provides gentle cooling Mediterranean breezes in the hot summers.
The Cabernet Sauvignon grapes which go into this wine are all carefully hand-harvested and then macerated and fermented with the skins for 25 days to extract an optimal amount of colour, flavours and tannins. After vinification the wine spends 18 months maturing in new French oak followed by at least 6 months resting in the bottle before it is ready for release.
Riglos Gran Cabernet Sauvignon 2016
Riglos winery was established by two friends from Buenos Aires, Darío Werthein and Fabián Suffern, who chose to name their venture after the place where their ancestors first arrived in Argentina many generations ago. Today they have a reputation for making top quality red wines from their Finca Las Divas vineyards which sit at 1350 metres of altitude in Mendoza’s Gualtallary sub-region.
The high altitude provides ideal conditions for premium winemaking since the vines enjoy sunny summer days balanced by cooler nights which preserves freshness and aromatics in the grapes. The grapes for this Cabernet are sourced from a stony plot on the Las Tunas de Gualtallary river where there is excellent drainage. Once in the winery the grapes are fermented and then the young wine matures in French oak barrels and casks for 18 months.
Sure to please lovers of big, bold reds, this powerful Cabernet opens with aromas of cassis, dark plum and blackberry along with spice and toast from the oak ageing. On the palate there is a generous full body, firm tannins and persistent finish with hints of licorice, dark chocolate and roasted coffee beans.
Mollydooker Maitre D Cabernet 2017
Mollydooker was founded in 2006 by Sarah and Sparky Marquis, two of Australia’s top winemakers. Named after the Australian slang for “left-hander”, their innovative project is located on Seaview Ridge in the heart of the McLaren Vale. Here the Mediterranean climate and excellent soils are perfectly suited to making full-bodied red wines with plenty of personality and rich fruit character. Over its short history Mollydooker has received a wealth of international accolades, including featuring 8 times in Wine Spectator’s annual Top 100 list.
This impressive Aussie Cabernet is named after Sparky’s part-time college job. Top quality grapes are sourced from Long Gully Road, Ryans Road, Martins Road and Coppermine Road in McLaren Vale. In the winery the fruit is fermented in barrels and then matured in a combination of French and American oak.
On the nose there are profound raspberry, cassis and dark cherry aromas seasoned with hints of bitter chocolate, ground coffee, and woodsmoke. The palate reveals a generous full body, firm tannins and rich texture along with a very long finish reminiscent of cigar box spice and toasted oak. A great addition to any collector’s cellar or partner for hearty red meat dishes like steak and barbecued meats.
Stark Conde Three Pines Cabernet Sauvignon 2016
The family-run Stark Conde winery has 85 acres of vines in the dramatic Jonkershoek Valley in Stellenbosch where the unique terroir helps craft some of South Africa’s most exciting wines. The steep, rugged nature of the land means that elevation varies drastically across the estate’s vineyard, hitting a high of 600 metres and a low of 150 metres. The family also farms their estate organically to ensure that they produce the very best quality fruit possible.
Their Three Pines Cabernet is crafted from fruit from its namesake single vineyard. The grapes are carefully hand harvested and sorted manually to ensure only the best quality fruit goes into this bottling. The young wine is then fermented in open tanks in the traditional style and aged in French oak barrels for 20 months. Following vinification the Cabernet is blended with small quantities of Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc and Malbec to add extra complexity and polish.
Bright blackberry, cassis and plum notes define the nose while the palate offers a generous full body, firm tannins and well-built structure which will respond gracefully to extended cellaring. The bold flavour profile makes this a great partner for barbecued meats, steak or even hearty game dishes like venison.
